Parker Wilson Consulting are a Building Services Engineering Practice with offices in Manchester and London and an associated office in St. Albans. We offer a full design service covering Mechanical, Electrical and Public Health Services, including data and telecom systems.

Originally established in 1989 from within an architectural group practice, we pride ourselves on our understanding of the needs of other design team members. We have an informed view of the particular working practices of our Clients, especially with regard to office space planning, catering and healthcare and laboratories.

The practice was founded on the basis of providing creative innovative design and a high level of service to our clients. The year on year growth of the practice has been due to repeat commissions from clients and recommendations from clients and other design team members.

Specialising in "Fast Track" projects we have a flexible approach to the particular requirements of each project and can tailor the services offered accordingly. This can range from full design and project management to specialist advice on specific matters.

It is practice policy to employ Engineers with experience within various sectors and ensure that they undertake a varied workload within the practice in order that there is a cross fertilisation of ideas. We therefore use the project management experience we have gained in large fast track office fitouts in undertaking difficult specialist healthcare projects.

Building appraisals are undertaken for Clients considering purchasing or leasing buildings and condition surveys for estate management purposes. In this respect PWC have particular expertise in commercial offices and educational establishments. Computerised, fully costed condition surveys enable Clients to plan their plant replacement programmes over a number of years and to allocate expenditure for specific priorities such as health and safety and fire precautions and DDA.

Scope of Services

The services offered include the following:-

1. Full design of mechanical, electrical and public health services incorporating data and telecoms systems.

2. Condition Surveys

3. Building Appraisals

4. Feasibility Studies and Development Plans

5. Facilities Management and Plant Maintenance Procedures.

6. Advisors on sustainable design and energy conservation

All drawings for the practice are undertaken utilising the latest LT and full version of AutoCad. We utilise TAS, Cymap with CADlink and Amtech for our design software.

Each engineer has a computer with email and internet access on a common server with broadband communication. The practice has a policy of continuous upgrade with regard to IT facilities. All engineers are computer proficient and therefore we do not rely on a separate CAD drafting department to produce drawings.

Information Systems

We work on the basis of internet information systems, which allow each engineer instant access to all British Standards, Building Regulations etc.

INTRODUCTION TO PARKER WILSON SUSTAIN LLP

We have a proven track record in sustainable projects. We have now underlined this commitment by forming Parker Wilson Sustain LLP. Parker Wilson have in conjunction with specialists, been for many years, undertaking dynamic simulations of both the thermal properties of buildings and also natural ventilation paths. In 1999 they were applied to the refurbishment of Buxton Opera House and later in the design of the night purge ventilation system in the Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Building at Manchester Royal Infirmary and the Visions Education building in Castlefield.

We have taken innovative approaches to office refurbishment, which have included the use of underfloor cooling system. This enabled the retention of the original vaulted ceilings in the Free Trade Exchange in Manchester. This won a British Council of Offices (BCO) Award for the best refurbished office building in 2007

It is our view that a building will only remain efficient if the services within it are properly maintained. Therefore in establishing Parker Wilson Sustain we have brought together our skills in undertaking services appraisals, trouble shooting of building services and facilities management. We are also able to manage re-commissioning exercises to improve the performance of services installations.

We utilise TAS software to dynamically model the performance of both new and existing buildings. This is utilised to provide the architect at initial design stage with the necessary information to make fundamental decisions on the building envelope and renewable energy sources. On existing buildings we are able to advise on improvement to the efficiency of existing air conditioning systems, lighting and building operations.

We are able to provide Energy Performance Certificates (EPC's) utilising either SBEEM or TAS software. However we expand the standard reports to provide further information which can be utilised for clients Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) statements. Assembling the information required in order to prepare EPC's, can be difficult. We are therefore able to offer a service to survey buildings, to enable drawings to be prepared, which can be inputted to the software to produce the EPC calculations.

The software for the preparation of Displayed Energy Certificates (DEC's) has finally been released. We are one of the few practices in the country to have engineers trained to undertake these.

The NHS Environmental Assessment Tool (NEAT) is used to gauge the environmental performance of NHS facilities, specifically their negative impact on the environment. NEAT can be applied to any NHS healthcare facility and is suitable for use by NHS Trusts and companies acting on behalf of the NHS.

Our core services are:

1. Services Appraisals and troubleshooting 'problem' services installations
2. Preparation of drawings for EPC's
3. Preparation of EPC's and DEC's
4. NEAT assessments
5. Dynamic thermal modelling of buildings
6. Technical advice on renewable systems and
energy conservation measures
7. Provision of corporate social responsibility statements
8. Facilities management and managing the re-commissioning of building services installations and controls.
